How do you know when it's time to look into garage door repair?

How do you know when it's time to look into garage door repair?

It's rather straightforward - You hit the remote. Almost nothing happens or the garage door creaks open painfully, hanging halfway off the home, and threatens to fall off at any second!

Prior to you giving up hope, you can tinker with these few parts of your door abit and see if it is somethign you can fix yourself.

If it opens or closes after holding down the wall button

It is the most common garage door repair problem, your sensors are blocked. Attempt cleansing off the sensors by wiping them clean with a rag.

While you're down there, make positive all the wires are securely fastened.

If the wall button won't open it or close it, that means you've received no power. Make certain everything's plugged in and examine the circuit breaker and fuses.

It Moves But Stops Just before It Hits The Floor

If your doors are closing, but stopping somewhere along the way and then heading back up, this indicates that you've set the stop attribute incorrect.

You may want to break out the instruction manual and look up the "limit change." There should be a setting somewhere on the box that enables you to handle wherever the door stops. Set this closer to the floor and it ought to do the job appropriately.

If there's one thing on the tracks, even a thing very small, it could be hitting that and stopping.

If your door doesn't open (and it's not electrical), or if it opens slowly or unevenly, you may have a torsion spring issues. The torsion springs, lift drums, and wind cables that lift the large doors off the floor my be damaged and will need to be replaced by a professional.

Your door may also be off track and will require a professional to realign your door and repair your track and rollers.
